Jordan receives first shipment of Iraqi crude oil
Amman, The first shipment of Iraqi crude oil arrived on Wednesday at the Jordan’s Petroleum Refinery Company in Zarqa as part of a deal, signed between the two countries earlier this year, under which Jordan would receive 10,000 barrels of Iraqi crude oil daily with a discount to cover the difference of transport costs and deviations in standards.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati told reporters after the arrival of the first tanker-truck loaded crude oil shipment that the move marks a further development in economic cooperation between Jordan and Iraq and usher in a new stage based on common economic interests.
She added the resumption of land transport of crude oil from Iraq will revive land transport, serve local communities in Jordan and Iraq and open up new job opportunities. Today’s shipment was loaded at the Baiji station in Kirkuk on Saturday.
