Minister of Transport Wajeeh Azayzeh said Wednesday that Jordan always strives to deepen pan-Arab cooperation with an unwavering strategic view based on Arab economic integration in various fields.
The minister made the remarks while addressing the 34th session of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers yesterday, during which Jordan was re-elected as a member of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers for the years 2022-2023.
In his speech, Azayzeh highlighted the importance of the meeting’s agenda and said it comes at a time when the world is still addressing the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing the need to provide emergency transport-related plans and to take measures that facilitate mobility and transit procedures.
He underlined the importance of transportation as the backbone of any economy, emphasizing that economic integration is vital to the sector.
The minister said: “The success of pan-Arab transport as a common concept among member states is based on three areas; foremost of which is adopting of a strategy that harmonizes an effective pan-Arab transport model with a technology-based infrastructure within the framework of a legislative environment agreed upon between Arab countries.”
World economies, he added, have developed to reach the era of digitization and technology, which have become a driving force for development and advancement. Transport, a large part of this force and a catalyst for economic growth, is a priority for governments and countries to serve communities and individuals.
Jordan, in its transport plans and strategy, upholds a pan-Arab vision with the aim of achieving the desired goals in the sector on a regional level.
