Jordan house speaker, Qatar Shura deputy speaker talk Hashemite Custodianship in Jerusalem

Algiers, Speaker of the Lower House Ahmad Safadi and the Deputy Speaker of the Qatari Shura Council, Hamda Sulaiti, Saturday held a meeting in Algiers on coordinating parliamentary positions to serve the region’s issues, especially the Palestinian issue.

Safadi said, in the meeting on the sidelines of parliaments of the member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) session, that the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem functioned as a “barrier against attempts to Judaize the Holy City.”

He said Jordan takes pride in the level of “distinguished” relations with Qatar and the level of coordination between the leaderships of both countries, whose last meeting was in Doha a few days ago.

In turn, Sulaiti said Qatar supports the “great” Jordanian role in serving the Palestinian cause, noting that the positions of both countries under the leadership of King Abdullah II and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad are committed to defending the “nation’s” issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause and the right of Palestinians to realise their national aspirations.

Sulaiti added that the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian sanctities in occupied Jerusalem is a “safety valve and a major line of defence” for the Palestinian cause and the holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
