Jordan has reached ‘reassuring’ pandemic curve-Health official

Member of National Epidemiological Committee, Dr. Bassam Hajjawi, said Jordan has reached a “reassuring” percentage in the Covid-19 pandemic curve, which enabled the Kingdom to reach a safe summer and start procedures for opening the sectors.

During a lecture held at the Pediatricians’ Club in the North recently, he reviewed the pandemic’s developments in Jordan, and the measures taken to control the disease.

Hajjawi, moreover, spoke about the national vaccination program, which was launched in 1979, and provides all the listed inoculations to all citizens and residents in Jordan “free of charge.”

Jordanian various health sectors’ partnership has boosted the health system’s resilience, which enabled it to deal with Covid-19 patients, reduce infection rates and related complications by constantly updating treatment protocols and working jointly to confront this pandemic, Hajjawi pointed out.

Noting Jordanian medical sector’s anti-pandemic coordinated action, he said this joint effort yielded “positive” results that mitigated the pandemic’s repercussions and reduced the period of blanket closures, despite the false information and rumors that led to non-compliance to the approved preventive measures.

Despite the decline in Covid-19 cases to about 7%, and deaths globally to 10%, in recent weeks, the situation “is still dynamic so far, not globally controlled and the stage of danger isn’t over yet,” according to Hajjawi.

Hajjawi also noted the importance of Covid-19 vaccination and its equitable distribution to all countries worldwide to reach community immunity and maintain precautionary measures.
