Jordan elected president of the AOAD General Assembly

Dead Sea, General Assembly of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) decided in its recent meeting to elect Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat as its president for a two-year term.

During the 1st International Jordanian Agricultural Forum, held at King Hussein Convention Center at the Dead Sea area, the assembly also picked Yemen as its vice-president.

The meeting, which was attended by Hneifat and the organization’s ministers, checked on progress in carrying out inter-Arab agricultural agendas and policies as endorsed by the Arab League Economic and Social Council and relevant bodies.

Hneifat said Jordan has a national strategy for agricultural development for the two decades 2005-2025 and also has a food security strategy, in which the emergency food security program is at its core.

The minister also called on ensuring food security through priorities overhauling to further focus on microfarmers to diversify produce and plug in rising demand for food.

He stressed the importance of maintaining coordination to achieve pan-Arab economic integration, and urged to further invest in the Jordanian agricultural sector to develop marketing facilities, packaging centers, storage and manufacturing.
