Jordan, a major destination for Qatari tourists
Doha, Many Qataris deem Jordan a key Arab destination for summer vacations in which to feel at home and find a quiet and relaxed family atmosphere.
According to unofficial figures, more than 20,000 Qataris had visited the Kingdom in 2017, some for medical tourism, while predictions by experts in the Qatari travel sector point to rising numbers this year.
They attribute the upward trend to the Kingdom’s tourist attractions and mild weather, unlike Europe, which had experienced unprecedented hot conditions this summer.
“Jordan has all the means as a tourist attraction that are unmatched in many other Arab countries, in addition to the similar customs and traditions between the Qataris and the people in the Gulf in general and the brotherly people of Jordan”, said Abdul Rahman al-Muftah, a Qatari businessman and former Consultative Council member.
But Muftah, who had visited Jordan several times in the past for business and tourism purposes, added that the Kingdom needs to further develop tourist facilities and promote itself to become a key and competitive a global, not just regional, travel destination.
Jordan offers many facilities and incentives to lure in visitors from Gulf Arab states to tour the dozens of tourists attractions spread across the Kingdom.
According to Ministry of Tourism and Antiques’ figures, the number of tourists from these countries, who had visited Jordan in the first 11 months of 2017, had recorded 537,848, marking a rise of 3.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2016.
