JD38m in electricity theft retrieved

The value of non-technical electricity losses, including tampering, which were retrieved during the period between 2016 till late 2019 stood at JD38.17 million, the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) said Saturday.

The amount recovered was: Jordan Electricity Company JD27.78 million, Irbid Electricity Company JD5.15 million and Electricity Distribution Company JD5.31 million, according to figures contained in the commission’s 2019 annual report.

Some 19,061 illegal connections to the power grid were detected during period inspections by the commission and security forces, including 6,101 cases of tampering with electricity distribution companies, it said.

An EMRC study showed that JD31 million is saved annually from reduced electricity losses.
