Japan’s FM: G7 Determined to Protect International Order, Rule of Law

Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa said that he wants to show the world that the Group of Seven (G7) nations are determined to protect the international order based on the rule of law.

Hayashi made the remarks on Monday during the second day of the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Japan.

Hayashi, who is chairing the meeting, said the world is facing a turning point. He stressed that the G7 nations oppose any unilateral attempt to change the status quo by force, referring to Russian military operations in Ukraine and threats of nuclear weapons.

Hayashi also said that the G7 nations are prepared to address the various issues faced by the emerging and developing countries collectively known as the Global South.

During their meetings, the participating ministers are expected to exchange views on how to support and strengthen relations with these countries, as well as the situation in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
