Italian ambassador gunned down in Congo attack
Amman, The Italian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Monday, was shot dead in an attack that targeted a World Food Programme (WFP) convoy in the country’s eastern region, according to the Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The AFP cited a top diplomat in the country’s capital Kinshasa as saying that the Italian envoy to DR Congo, Luca Attanasio, succumbed to his wounds he sustained in the attack.
Italy’s new prime minister, Mario Draghi, described the attack as “cowardice” and said his country is mourning the death of the ambassador and that of an Italian soldier.
