Israel army arrests 15 Palestinians in new raids

Israeli occupation forces early Tuesday swept across Palestinian towns in the West Bank and arrested 15 people.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club organization said in a statement that soldiers in military jeeps carried out search-and-arrest raids into various areas of the West Bank, rounded up 15 men and referred them to security authorities on charges of resisting soldiers and Jewish settlers.

Clashes erupted in several West Bank areas overnight, and gunmen fired on an Israeli force near the Jewish settlement of Gush Atsion, south of occupied Jerusalem, and the settlement of Ofra near Ramallah, but no injuries were reported.

In Jerusalem, dozens of settlers and ultra orthodox Jews broke into the Al Aqsa Mosque/ Haram Al Sharif compound, the latest in almost daily provocations and breaches of the sanctity of one of Islam’s holiest sites, and performed prayers.

The Islamic Waqf (religious endowments) Department said the settlers were escorted by heavily armed paramilitary police, who imposed tight restrictions on the entry of Arab worshippers at the gates of the walled Old City of Jerusalem.
