Iranian commercial plane carrying 66 crashes

An ATR airplane carrying 60 passengers in addition to its crew of 6 heading from Tehran to the southern city of Yasuj crashed, an Iranian official announced on Sunday.

The Chair of the National Security Committee and Foreign Policy at the Islamic Shura Council, Aladdin Brojerdy?, told the Iranian state media that the airplane heading from Tehran to Yasuj city, which disappeared from the radar earlier, crashed in the suburbs of the city of Semirom in the central province of Isfahan.

“Searching operation for the plane’s debris and the identities of the passengers is still ongoing,” Brojerdy said, adding that “the plane crashed just twenty minutes after taking off from Mehrabad International Airport”
