Interior Minister meets UNHCR Jordan Representative
Interior Minister Salameh Hammad on Thursday voiced Jordan’s appreciation to the humanitarian role of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and its continuous endeavor to stand in solidarity with refugee-host countries.
During a meeting with UNHCR Jordan Representative, Dominik Bartsch, the two officials discussed means of supporting Jordan to withstand the pressures arising from the waves of refugees arriving from different countries, along with a number of issues of common concern.
“Jordan has always been a haven for those seeking security and peace. The Kingdom has received successive waves of refugees, placing pressures on its economy, security, and quality of life,” the minister said, stressing that in order to fulfill the humanitarian duty towards refugees, the international community needs to seriously take Jordan’s capacity and resources into account and provide the needed support.
He also asserted the ministry’s commitment to supporting the UNHCR’s efforts in Jordan, by facilitating its work that aims at mitigating the impacts of the refugee crisis on Jordan and refugees alike.
The UN official appreciated the support of the ministry and its affiliated institutions to help the UNHCR address the needs of refugees in an immediate and rapid manner.
