ICT sector earnings up at $2.2 billion

Amman, The Telecommunications and Information Technology (ICT) sector’s local earnings reached $2.2 billion by the end of 2018, picking up by 4.5 percent compared to 2017.

The Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan (Int@j) released a survey which showed that telecommunications companies brought in $1.42 billion for the sector, a 1.5 percent growth, while the information technology sector witnessed a growth of 10.7 percent, reaching $750 million.

The Amman-based association cited the tax incentives approved in 2016 as the reason behind the growth.

Int@j’s findings were based on data collected from companies operating in the sector and the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), showing Jordan as an important and strategic ICT hub in the region.

The increase in revenues came as a result of the high productivity of employees amid steady employment rates, according to the survey, predicting that profit rates will reflect positively on jobs.

The ICT sector employs over 17,000 people, of those 67 percent are male and 33 percent are female.
