Lower House Speaker Abdul Karim Doghmi Tuesday pledged to address demands to enhance the agricultural sector, and said he will reach out to the government to solve outstanding issues.
He told owners of unlicensed agricultural water wells, who staged sit-in protests outside the parliament building, that the agricultural sector is of priority to His Majesty the King and uplifting it is a goal to achieve food security and raise the gross domestic product.
“It is of prime importance today to bolster strategies to enhance the agricultural sector,” he told the farmers.
Jordan, Doghmi noted, was in the past a wheat producer known for its quality product that was exported to other countries, adding that it is necessary to come up with thorough plans to address all challenges that led to the farming sector’s decline.
