House Speaker calls on holding urgent meetings to support people of Jerusalem, Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood

Speaker of Lower House of Parliament, Abdel Moneim Odat, called on the heads of Parliament, the Arab Union and the Federation of Councils of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to hold urgent meetings for member states to take positions against violations of the Israeli occupation government and extremist Jewish gangs in Jerusalem, including in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

Odat calls came in coordination with the Palestine Parliamentary Committee, with the aim of setting a formula for action at Arab and Islamic levels, and leveraging all channels that aim to protect Jerusalem and its people.

Within the framework of coordinating Arab parliamentary efforts, Odat also made contacts with Chairman of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), Salim Zanoun, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Al Asoomi, and Speaker of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), Saqer Ghobash.

“Today, we are required to take a position that expresses the unity and solidarity of our Arab nation with our brotherly people in Palestine, and to impose respect for its holy sites and the Arabness of its holy city, using all the tools of pressure, especially international legitimacy decisions in this regard,” Odat said in letters addressed to the heads of the Arab Parliamentary Union, the Arab Parliament and the Union of Councils of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
