The Lower House on Wednesday approved amendments to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, in its session held Wednesday, headed by Speaker Abdel Moneim Awdat, and attended by the Cabinet.
Under the amendments, a person who is found involved in a narcotic-related case for the first time will not be litigated, nor deemed a criminal precedent.
The draft tightens the penalties for criminal acts, and guarantees the prohibition of the manufacture of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or chemical precursors for non-medical or scientific purposes.
The draft law also expanded the scope of powers pertaining to confiscation of illegal materials and imposed the precautionary seizure of funds if found to have been obtained as a result of violating any of the acts stipulated in the law.
The bill also made it illegal to use any information networks, media or other means of dissemination to incite illegal dealings with narcotics, psychotropic substances.
The House, moreover, referred to its legal committee the Jordan Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC) Law, which was returned from the Senate.
