GeneralHouse Finance panel briefed on draft budget supplement programs

The Lower House Finance Committee, in a meeting held Thursday, headed by MP Nimr Sleihat, was briefed by Ministers of Industry and Trade, Maha Ali, and Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmed Hanandeh, on a draft law attached to the 2021 General Budget Law.

Speaking during the meeting, Sleihat said discussions aim to check on the mechanism for spending financial allocations launched by the government to strengthen social protection network and ensure sustainability of employment in private sector institutions, which were affected by the pandemic crisis and still “unauthorized” to reopen to ensure their continuity.

With regard to stimulating the industrial sector, Ali said JD10 million were allocated, divided into two disbursements , where the first JD8.5 million is paid to support exports and companies according to approved standards, adding that the number of businesses, which benefited from this funding stood at 21 companies with a value of JD4.5 million.

The second disbursement, meanwhile, is devoted to temporary employment aimed to helping newly-graduated youth to find a job opportunity, in cooperation with Jordan’s industry chambers, Ali noted, adding that companies and the government will each pay half of new workers’ salaries.

The industry chambers announced these jobs across the Kingdom’s governorates, which then will be sorted out, she noted.

Hanandeh, for his part, said jobs in the information technology field were created for youth due to the Covid-19 pandemic-induced circumstances, as JD20 million were allocated to support new workers’ salaries.

Hanandeh said the new worker will receive a monthly salary of JD400 dinars, half paid by the gov’t funding program designed for this purpose, while the employer company will pay the second half in contribution to youth employment, in coordination with the Social Security Corporation (SSC), indicating that these jobs could become “permanent” if the worker proves his competency.
