House association, Greek envoy discuss bilateral cooperation

The Jordanian-European Parliamentary Friendship Association, headed by MP Khaldoun Haina, discussed on Wednesday with the Greek Ambassador to Jordan, Eleftheria Galathianaki, ways to enhance bilateral relations.

Speaking at the meeting, Haina said Jordan and Greece have “long-standing” relations, highlighting similarities in their positions on some issues.

The lawmaker called on investing these relations in various fields, especially parliamentary and economic areas.

The MP also called on building on the outcomes of the tripartite summit, which brought together His Majesty King Abdullah II, Greek Prime Minister and Cypriot President in 2019, to strengthen partnership, increase opportunities and attract investments to the Kingdom in the energy, agriculture, and trade fields, and as well as transferring knowledge through cultural exchange.

The association’s members, for their part, valued the Greek role in supporting the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and preserving the city’s historical status quo and its identity.

In turn, the Greek envoy stressed the “deep-rooted, solid” relationship between the two countries.

The diplomat also noted the two countries’ partnership in the Middle East Forum, as well as action initiatives in the energy and tourism fields.

Galathianaki added that her country supports the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic holy sites in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, as well as the two-state solution regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, to achieve security and stability in the region.
