Guatemala moves its embassy to Jerusalem

Amman, Guatemala opened its embassy in Jerusalem on Wednesday, becoming the first country to follow in the footsteps of the United States’ deeply controversial move.

Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended the embassy’s opening in an office complex in west Jerusalem, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.

Guatemala is the second country to relocate its embassy to occupied Jerusalem after the U.S., Romania, the Czech Republic and Honduras are also considering moving their embassies from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem .

The U.S. opened its embassy on Monday in Jerusalem in an interim office located in its consulate in preparation to move it from Tel Aviv.
