Gov’t provides public universities with some JOD1 billion: Minister

Amman, Higher Education Minister, Muhyiddine Touq, Tuesday said that the government had offered public universities with more than JOD1 billion, in addition to JOD200 million secured from a GCC grant initiative over the period 2001-2018, and JOD59 million since January 2019.

Addressing the Lower House’s Youth and Education Committee, Touq said that this massive government’s financial support demonstrates commitment to providing quality education and developing universities.

The overall number of BA students in the regular program at public universities, who don’t pay any fees has stood at 76.6 percent, he said, adding that the percentage of students enrolled in both the parallel and the regular programs paying no fees totaled at 62.6 percent.

The minister underlined that if such policy and standing approach persist in public universities, Jordan could be able to offer free education for Bachelor’s degree students in all programs within the upcoming few years.
