Gov’t injects JD5mln to support municipalities counter weather conditions-Mheidat

Ministry of Local Administration has infused JD5 million to support municipalities face weather emergencies during the current winter season, its Secretary-General Hussein Mheidat said.

In a press statement on Wednesday, Mheidat noted the gov’t support will help the Kingdom’s municipalities to rent and maintain vehicles during emergency weather conditions, and purchase “water suction trucks” for use in flood cases.

This cash will also be used to procure any equipment and supplies for logistical support purposes to sustain the municipalities’ work in these “exceptional” weather conditions, he added.

On the other hand, Mheidat noted 124 shelter centers with a 1, 500 bed capacity were equipped in the Kingdom’s various municipalities in preparation for the polar air depression.

The ministry, he noted, helped equip the shelters in many municipalities to be ready to deal “quickly” with weather -related damages to citizens and tourists, installed especially on tourist sites and main roads, with the aim of providing a “safe” accommodation.

To take appropriate action, Mheidat said the Ministry of Local Administration is following “closely” on weather conditions, with its 117 emergency rooms, 17 at its headquarters and 100 at the governorate service councils.
