Gov’t holiday decision also applies to private sector, says minister

Labour Minister, Nidal Bataineh, said public employees are on an official paid leave that will not be deducted from their annual leave balance in keeping with the cabinet’s decision to suspend work at the official institutions and departments over the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bataineh also made it clear that the cabinet decision also applies to private sector employees as they are effectively on an official holiday and are entitled to all their allocations, incentives and privileges except for workers in sectors that are excluded by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply from the cabinet decision.

The Minister affirmed that the sectors excluded from the holiday are subject to the decision announced yesterday, regarding flexible and remote working according to the employer’s decision and work necessities.
