Gov’t extends general sales tax reduction on vegetable oils

A Cabinet session on Sunday, headed by Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Khasawneh, extended its decision to lower general sales tax on vegetable oils to 0%, instead of 4% until the end of next November.

The decision aims to continue price reduction of vegetable oils sold to citizens, in light of their high prices globally.

The Council of Ministers also decided to fully exempt scholarship holders studying at public universities’ expense by 100% of the fines owed.

Under the decision, beneficiaries shall pay full value of the actual expenses of scholarships to Ministry of Finance, or directly to the concerned public university until the end of December 31.

On the other hand, the Cabinet approved a draft law amending Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Law for 2022.

Under the amendments, foreign companies must register with Jordan’s Companies Control Department (CCD) and scrap reference to social services tax, in line with abolition of ASEZA law and align the authority’s tax system to comply with international tax standards and rules.
