Germany proposes fresh sanction package against Russia

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock Wednesday said at an EU ministerial meeting in Prague that her country had submitted a list of eight proposed sanctions against Russia, according to Deutsche Welle (DW).

DW reported that Baerbock did not mention any details about the proposed sanctions package during recent consultations at the level of the Group of Seven major industrialised countries, noting that the German government is likely to press for the implementation of an international ceiling for the price of Russian oil.

The proposed sanctions would restrict Russia to sell its oil to its major buyers, such as India, at a lower price.

The EU has imposed seven packages of sanctions against Russia, the most recent of which was a ban on the import of Russian gold and tighter export controls on high-tech and civilian goods that could be used for military purposes.
