Foreign Ministry summons Chargé d’Affairs of Israeli embassy

The Foreign Ministry on Sunday summoned the Chargé d’Affairs of the Israeli embassy in Amman to express the Jordanian government’s rejection and condemnation of the continuous Israeli violations against the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al Haram Al Qudsi Al Sharif, the recent attacks on the Al Haram Al Sharif and worshipers, and the attacks on Jerusalemites, especially in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem.

The ministry’s secretary-general, ambassador Yousef Bataineh, told the Israeli Chargé d’Affairs that the recent Israeli practices against the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque constitute a violation of the international law and the historical and legal status quo and must be stopped immediately, and he warned him of the consequences of continuing violations, provocations and escalation.

Bataineh emphasized that the Israeli police practices are provocative, rejected and condemned. He also stressed the need to respect the sanctity of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al Haram Al Sharif and the freedom of worshipers.

He also underlined that the Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a pure mosque for Muslims that is exclusively supervised by Jordan’s Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque Awqaf Department, and that the Israeli violations against the Al Haram Al Sharif represent a flagrant provocation to the feelings of Muslims around the world.
