FM participates in UN anniversary celebration
Amman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi took part in a Spanish-Swedish initiative to promote multilateralism.
The initiative was launched on Tuesday on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, with the participation of a number of world leaders.
“Boosting multilateralism enhances our collective capabilities to face shared challenges, protect the environment, achieve sustainable development, end conflicts and injustice, and bring about peace and stability,” Safadi said in a statement.
He noted that working together on the basis of international law is the key to creating opportunities and building a more ‘prosperous future’ in our increasingly interconnected world.
“As we face the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more clear than ever that we need each other, and we must work together to protect our people,” Safadi added, underscoring that Jordan’s commitment to pluralism is unwavering, and citing a remark by His Majesty King Abdullah II that “collective action is vital when it comes to resolving conflicts and crises that threaten our world.”
Safadi stressed the need for multilateral partnerships to overcome the challenges of refugees, conflicts and food security, and to achieve a lasting and just peace that meets the rights of the Palestinian people to freedom and a sovereign state that lives side by side with Israel on the basis of the two-state solution and in accordance with international law.
Safadi stated that reinforcing multilateral action is imperative, and that the better future that the world seeks will be attainable if “if we unite and work together, and consolidate multilateral work.”
