FM meets Finland’s former President

Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi, on Wednesday, Finland’s former President Tarja Kaarina Halonen, currently visiting the Kingdom, as part of a regional tour to highlight the Syrian refugees crisis and discuss latest developments in the Middle East.

Safadi briefed Halonen on Jordan’s efforts in assisting refugees and meeting their needs, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities toward refugees.

The minister highlighted pressures on education, health, infrastructure and other sectors, due to hosting about 1.3 million Syrians.

Halonen commended Jordan’s role in hosting and serving refugees, and said the Kingdom is a role model in its humanitarian stances and in bearing and managing the burden of the refugees crisis.

The foreign Minister and Finland’s former President reviewed regional developments and stressed the importance of boosting ties two countries.

Halonen is currently holding several positions in national, regional and international organizations and institutions, including a membership in the United Nations High Level Advisory Board on Mediation.
