Cairo: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Wednesday chaired the 6th meeting of the Arab Ministerial Committee tasked with taking action to confront illegal Israeli policies and measures in the occupied city of Jerusalem, ahead of the 159th regular session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level.

Addressing the meeting, Safadi reviewed the committee’s efforts and its movements in mobilizing international support to stop the illegal Israeli measures in occupied Jerusalem.

The FM also touched on efforts aimed at creating a “true” political horizon, which allows resumption of serious and effective negotiations to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

This process, he noted, is embodied in establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on June 4, 1967 lines, to live in security and peace alongside Israel, in accordance with international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative.

During the meeting, Safadi noted the Kingdom, under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership, will continue to make all efforts to protect Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites within the framework of the Hashemite custodianship to preserve the holy city’s Arab, Islamic and Christian identity.

Safadi presented developments on Israel’s violations in Jerusalem, the committee’s efforts since its 5th meeting, and moves taken by the member states with world influential countries to confront Israeli practices targeting occupied Jerusalem, its people and its Islamic and Christian sanctities.

In this regard, he said the latest endeavor was the meeting hosted by the Kingdom in the port city of Aqaba aimed to achieving de-escalation on the ground, stopping unilateral measures, preventing further violence, and preserving Jerusalem’s historical and legal status quo fully.
