First Covid-19 infection recorded in Aqaba, announces its governor

Governor of Aqaba, Muhammad Rafaiah, announced on Wednesday that the first Covid-19 infection has been recorded in the port city involving a customs employee.

In a media statement to “Petra,” he said the employee caught the disease after he contacted his infected sister in the capital Amman.

The infected person is living in Aqaba’s customs residence, and his inmate has tested negative, the governor noted.

Preventive measures have been taken by investigation teams, as his working site was sterilized, in addition to collecting swabs from his co-workers, he pointed out.

The governor called on the public to follow health measures and procedures to prevent the spread of the disease, adding Aqaba is virus-free and the employee came from outside the governorate.
