Environment Minister Nabil Masarweh on Sunday discussed with Khalida Bouzar, UN Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Administrator and Regional Director Regional Bureau for Arab States (UNDP), and the Resident Representative of the UNDP in Jordan, Sara Ferrer Olivella, cooperation between Jordan and the United Nations.

Bouzar commended Jordan’s “strategic understanding” of development plans, especially environmental ones, and the progress made in updating the nationally determined contributions, which are now double what the Kingdom had committed to in the Paris Agreement and the green growth plans that were prepared despite enormous burdens arising from consecutive waves of refugees in the region.

Masarweh reviewed the government’s preparations to participate in the 26th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), which will be held in November of this year in Glasgow in the United Kingdom.

He stressed that Jordan is ready, both in terms of political will and strategies, to present its distinguished level of achievement in the field of climate change and the environment, calling on countries and international bodies to provide their financing commitments towards developing countries in order to build a sustainable planet for future generations.
