Egypt sentences two to death over church attack

Cairo, An Egyptian criminal court on Sunday sentenced two men to death by hanging, and eight others to between three years and life in prison over an attack on the Mar Mina Church in Cairo on December 29, 2017.

Attorney General Nabil Sadeq had ordered the transfer of 11 defendants for criminal prosecution on charges of establishing, leading and joining a “takfiri” group, financing it, killing 10 citizens, including a police officer, attempted murder of others, and resisting police.

They were also charged with manufacturing and possession of an explosive device, joining the Daesh terror group outside the country with the intention of committing terrorist acts in Egypt, and possession of firearms and ammunition for the purpose of committing terrorist acts.
