EBRD Representatives conduct virtual visit to Jordan

Representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Board of Directors have started a virtual visit to Jordan, where they will meet with policy makers and representatives of companies and civil society organizations.

Discussions, according to a press release on Wednesday, will focus on efforts to overcome the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on the Jordanian economy.

The visit will be attended by EBRD Director in Canada, Morocco, Jordan and Tunisia Sarah Fountain Smith, members of the Board of Directors, EBRD Director in Denmark, Lithuania, Ireland and Kosovo Jens Lundsgaard, EBRD Director in Spain and Mexico Felipe Martinez, EBRD Director in Italy Manuela Nina, EBRD Director in Norway, Finland, Latvia and Lebanon Per Sandrod, EBRD Director in the Russian Federation, Belarus and Tajikistan Sergey Verkachansky.

Representatives of the EBRD Board of Directors will meet with Minister of Planning and International Cooperation and EBRD Governor in Jordan, Nasser Shraideh, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati, Secretary General of the Ministry Amani Azzam, and Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan Adel Sharkas.

The delegation will also meet with the Mayor of Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), Yousef Shawarbeh, Director General of the National Electric Power Company, Amjad Rawashdeh, and representatives of civil society organizations and the business community.

The delegation will participate in a round table meeting with development partners, including the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB), the German Investment and Development Bank (DEG), the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

Since starting its operations in Jordan in 2012, the EBRD has provided more than 1.5 billion euros to finance 60 projects.
