Depression forecast to bring strong winds, rain over weekend

A slight drop in temperatures is forecast on Thursday, with cold weather prevailing countrywide and clouds appearing at medium and high altitudes, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily update.

At night, the Kingdom will be affected by a depression centered over Cyprus, bringing rain in the northern regions, gradually extending to the central and eastern parts.

On Friday, further drop in temperatures is expected as the impact of the cold air mass and the depression deepen. The weather will be cold, cloudy and rainy in the northern and central parts, and by noon, the impact of the combined weather conditions will start prevailing in the south and east of the Kingdom.

Rain will be torrential and snowfall is expected in high mountainous areas, while winds will be westerly with strong gusts, which could reach 60 kilometers per hour, the weather department predicted.

Chilly weather is also forecast for Saturday, with scattered showers in the northern and central regions, the JMD added.

Temperatures in Amman today will reach a high of 15C, dropping to 5C at night, while the Gulf of Aqaba will see a fair 20C, dipping to 9C during night hours.
