Consultancy agreement signed to implement Jordanian-Iraqi economic city

The Jordanian-Iraqi Industry Company, which is owned by the governments of Jordan and Iraq, and the Coalition for Engineering Consultancy have signed a contract for the provision of consulting services for a Jordanian-Iraqi border economic city project.

According to the agreement, starting the following week, the engineering consultancy firm will offer consulting services for all the conditions, steps, and stages of finding a developer to carry out the joint economic city project, including the creation of tender documents.

Following the signing ceremony, the Company issued a statement stating that the project’s administrative and procedural steps have started. This project will improve Jordanian-Iraqi economic cooperation and bring about the necessary development in the regions of western Iraq and eastern Jordan.

As the products and industries produced in the economic city will benefit from the advantages of the free trade agreements signed by the Kingdom with many countries, as well as an access to more than one billion consumers without any technical or customs restrictions, the project “constitutes an opportunity to build Jordanian-Iraqi economic integration in many fields, especially industrial ones,” the statement continued.

The joint economic city will be established on the border between Jordan and Iraq, with an allocated 10,000-dunum plot from each side.
