Cold snap remains, polar front to bring heavy rain, snow Friday

Cold and partly cloudy weather with spells of rain spreading from the northern to the central parts of the Kingdom and southwesterly moderate winds, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said.

Daytime temperatures expected for today in Amman and the northern regions will reac2 degrees Celsius, dropping down to 4 and 5 respectively, while standing at 10 degrees in the southern regions sliding to 3 degrees at night. The weather will be warmer in the port city of Aqaba with highs reaching 23 degrees and lows standing at 14 at night, the JMD said.

A cold air mass accompanied by a depression centered over Cyprus is forecast to start affecting the country on Thursday with rain in the northern and central regions, later spreading to all parts of the Kingdom. Heavy rain accompanied by lightning, thunder and hail, is forecast Thursday night, causing floods in low-lying areas.

The Kingdom will remain under the impact of the depression on Friday, causing major drop in temperatures and bringing chilly conditions with cloudy skies across the country, the JMD added. Heavy rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and hail with snowfall are also expected mainly on mountainous areas 900 meters above the sea level.
