GeneralCabinet convenes following government reshuffle

The Cabinet Monday convened after a reshuffle in the government that had been approved by a Royal Decree.

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, who chaired the session, emphasised the importance of pooling efforts to realise the aspirations of Jordanians and His Majesty King Abdullah II and “to be deserving of His Majesty’s trust…”

He said the reshuffle in the government came to help in the economic recovery and growth and luring in investments, adding it would contribute to realising the government’s Economic Priorities Programme 2021-2023, which the government had submitted to His Majesty.

He said the government, through the programme, will strive to draw up approaches that would help achieve economic recovery and address poverty and unemployment.

He said the government’s main priority is to lure in investments and empower the private sector. It aspires to facilitate local and foreign investments through standardising the investment procedures and creating a business-friendly environment, underscoring the importance of the private sector’s involvement.

Also, Khasawneh said the Investment Ministry was established to supervise investment affairs and address issues that investors may grapple with. It drafts policies to encourage investing in Jordan’s main economic sectors, not the least of which is tourism and hospitality.

The Ministry would encourage investing by shedding light on the experience of local, Arab and foreign investors in the country.

On the Royal Commission to Reform the Political Ecosystem, Khasawneh said his government is poised to submit the Commission’s findings: the elections draft law and the constitutional changes draft law to the parliament.
