The Jordanian-German short film “Tala’vision”, which won the gold medal at the 48th Annual Student Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Narrative Film category, premiered Wednesday in Taj Mall theatres, organized by the Royal Film (RFC).
“Tala’vision”, written and directed by Murad Abu Eisheh, is the first Arab-Jordanian movie to win this category, starring Ziyad Bakri, Khalid Al Tareefy, and the child Aisha Balasim.
The short film tells the story of Tala, an 8-year-old, who is not allowed to leave her house as a result of an ongoing war in an unnamed Arab country. Tala’s only connection to the outside world is a small television, which her father throws out under a law imposed by terrorist gangs.
Following the premier, the RFC’s Director General, Muhannad Bakri, said he hopes this accomplishment inspires Jordanian film-makers to showcase humanitarian messages in their cinematic works, stressing the commission’s continuous support for them to offer up works that lift the Jordanian film industry. Bakri also handed an honorary shield to the writer and director of the movie.
