Arab ministers meet on Israeli settlement expansions, annexations

Cairo, The Arab League Monday called for an extraordinary meeting of its council at the level of foreign ministers on Thursday to discuss Israeli plans to expand Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Oman will chair the meeting via video conferencing, which was requested by Palestine to discuss steps that Arab states can take vis-a-vis Israel’s planned annexation of the occupied West Bank, or parts of it, and the imposition of Israeli sovereignty over it and the illegal settlements which had been built on Palestinian land since 1967, particularly the annexation of the Jordan Valley and “area C” of the West Bank.

Arab League Assistant Secretary General Hossam Zaki said in a statement that the ministerial meeting will discuss various ways to extend political, legal and financial support to the Palestinian leadership to counter the Israeli designs, and enable the Palestinian government to deal with the damage from the coronavirus pandemic and face the aggressive Israeli measures that cause more losses to the Palestinian people, including withholding tax funds.
