Arab League welcomes plan to end foreign military presence in Libya

Internal AffairsArab League welcomes plan to end foreign military presence in Libya

The Arab League Saturday welcomed a plan signed by the Libyan Joint Military Commission, which will oversee the withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign fighters from the war-ravaged country.

In a statement, the pan-Arab organisation urged all international and regional partners to cooperate and provide support for the agreement and the ceasefire arrangements as well as the unification of the military establishment, disarmament and disbanding and integrating armed groups.

The signing and implementation of the plan would enhance Libya’s full sovereignty and guarantee its security and territorial safety, it said.

The Joint Military Commission, also known as JMC, 5+5, concluded a three-day meeting at United Nations Headquarters in Geneva yesterday during which a comprehensive action plan was reached for the “gradual, balanced, and sequenced departure of all mercenaries, foreign fighters and foreign forces from Libya.”
