Arab League condemns forced displacement of Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah

The Arab League on Thursday denounced Israel’s forced displacement of Palestinian families in the Sheikh Jarrah area in occupied Jerusalem.

The pan-Arab organization called on the international community to intervene to prevent this measure, which deeps a system of apartheid in the occupied lands.

The League’s Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, described the displacement as a “full-fledged crime” that is taking place within the framework of an ongoing scheme to Judaize East Jerusalem and to dislodge Palestinians from these neighborhoods.

An official source at the General Secretariat of the Arab League indicated that the escalation of Judaization, settlement and displacement policies may fan the flames of the situation in the occupied territories, and especially in Jerusalem, in a way that cannot be imagined or predicted, describing these policies that the Israeli occupation authorities are practicing as “irresponsible” and a reflection of internal conflicts and narrow partisan interests.
