President of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions (AQACHEI), Thafer Sarayrah, on Tuesday met with Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Regional Director, Ashwin Fernandes.

QS is a British company specializing in the analysis of higher education institutions around the world.

The meeting discussed international classification standards, and Sarayrah said the AQACHEI is constantly in contact with international accreditation, quality and classification institutions.

He said the ongoing cooperation with these institutions aims to contribute to keeping abreast with developments in the higher education field.

He added that the QS classification is a catalyst for Jordanian universities towards competitiveness and globalization, and that participating in this classification requires more work and clear visions to achieve a high level of quality, which contributes to improving higher education outcomes in Jordanian universities, and determining its position on similar universities according to a set of selected international standards.

For his part, Ashwin stressed the importance of international classifications for the benefit of higher education institutions, preparing their outputs, evaluating their programs and activities and the quality of their outputs in accordance with the best internationally known standards.

The two sides agreed to boost means of cooperation to contribute to develop a roadmap to improve the performance of higher education institutions in line with their vision and orientations towards achieving excellence and compete regionally or globally.
