APCO wins Petroleum Economist Award 2019

Amman, Attarat Power Company (APCO) has won an international award for the best energy project of 2019 from “Petroleum Economist” magazine.

During the annual ceremony organized by the magazine in London on Wednesday, the member of the Board of Directors, Mohammed Ma’aita and the Company’s CEO Jason Bock, received the award on behalf of APCO.

According to a statement made by the company today, Ma’aita said during the ceremony, the project is an achievement for the shale oil industry in Jordan, adding it is an important first step towards the independence of energy security.

APCOM, he noted, is building the first oil shale power plant and the largest open mine in Jordan, and is currently working on the construction of a power plant by oil shale with a capacity of 470 megawatts to begin commercial operation in mid-2020.

The APCO project is the largest domestic foreign investment in the Kingdom at a cost of $ 2 billion and provides more than 1,000 long-term employment opportunities for Jordanians and the first project to benefit from local shale resources.

The APCO project is a strategic energy security enterprise that will contribute to reducing Jordan’s dependence on imported gas.
