Amman Opera Festival to kick off Wednesday

The Amman Opera Festival, is set to kick off in November 16 and 18 at the Amman Academy Theatre, under the patronage of HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein.

“Preparations are underway for an opera on Petra that will be performed in the fifth edition of the Amman Opera Festival in 2023, and details of the next production will be announced soon, entitled “Petra”, which will be presented in Arabic, Aramaic, Nabataean and English,” Jordanian soprano Zeina Barhoum said Thursday in a press conference to announce the launch of the festival with the famous opera, La Traviata.

“The Amman Opera Festival, the first opera festival in the Arab world, and after a two-year absence due to Covid 19 pandemic, will re-present the La Traviata in November 16 and 18” Barhoum added.

The Amman Academy Director Yasmin Nassif expressed the academy’s pride in hosting the Amman Opera Festival in its opera performance “La Traviata” on the academy’s theatre, noting that the academy’s founder, Munther Fahoum, established this theater with the aim of providing an opportunity for artists and academics who are able to present their creativity in this area.

For their part, conductor, Maestro Massimo Taddia, director Riccardo Canessa and lead singer Riccardo Gatto expressed their joy to participate in this distinguished artistic event, noting that this festival will contribute to strengthening friendship between the band and Jordanian stakeholders.
