Amendments to party funding seek to enhance their electoral participation, says official
Secretary-General of the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs and the Chairman of the Party Affairs Committee, Ali Khawaldeh, said amendments issued recently in the Official Gazette related to the parties’ funding regulations aim to enhance their participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Speaking to “Petra” on Wednesday, he said the amendments were endorsed as a result of several meetings held recently by the ministry with political parties to support their active participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Under the amendments, various media choices are made accessible to parties, in a bid to highlight their electoral programs in newspapers, and press sites, according to Khawaldeh.
Amendments have been made to foster participation of women and youth under 35 years, he said, adding the newly-endorsed regulations stipulate that at least one woman, or a young member, under the age of 35 years, appears on the party lists.
