Agreement with Teachers Syndicate was struck under Royal directions: Education Minister

Amman, The agreement between the government and the Jordanian Teachers Syndicate to end the strike was reached as per directions of His Majesty King Abdullah II, said Minister of Education and Higher Education and Scientific Research, Walid Maani.

The King had stressed the need to establish a dialogue to reach a solution to the crisis that lasted for weeks, and raised serious concern for the future of students.

Students’ return to their classes and the continuation of the educational process was the most important concern for His Majesty, added Maani during the signing ceremony.

He added that the both negotiating teams have spared no effort in making all attempts and measures that led to this consensus.

The strike, in its peaceful form, constituted a type of the democratic practice in which the Jordanian people proved that they can overcome their problems through peaceful dialogue, Maani noted.

He added that the ministry will compensate students for missing school days through the ministry’s planning committee and based on article 40 of the Education Law, stressing that the ministry will not resort to Saturdays.

JTS Vice President Naser Nawasrah lauded the King’s directions that led to this “major national achievement”, in addition to the efforts of the government, which was keen on teachers and students’ rights.
