26 suspects arrested on drug-related charges

Amman, Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel have arrested 26 suspected drug dealers and users in various regions of the Kingdom, Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi, Spokesperson of Public Security Department (PSD) said on Wednesday.

AND carried out a raid in Na’our, west of Amman, and seized 18 palm-sized sheets of hashish and around 3,000 Captagon pills as well as large quantities of live ammo, he added.

In Umm-Amd, south of the Capital, officers asked a vehicle to pull over, the suspects refused to comply which led to a police chase during which a passenger threw a large bag containing 18 palm-sized sheets of hashish. The suspects are still at large.

The security apparatus’s personnel also carried out five raids in Northern and Southern Shuneh following a tip, and seized different quantities of marijuana and arrested 7 drug dealers and users.

They dealt with three cases North of the Kingdom, and nabbed three suspects in Mafraq with various quantities of hashish and narcotic pills, while one suspect was arrested in Irbid with 1kg of synthetic cannabis powder.

AND personnel raided a marijuana farm seizing 40 saplings. In Sahab, 6 drug traffickers were arrested, and another dealer in Madaba was caught red-handed selling narcotics, while a third was nabbed in Ma’an.

In Balqa, one suspect was arrested carrying 19 hunting rifles, while another in Amman was caught with an illegal firearm.

The apprehended men are being investigated to be referred to the competent authorities.
