23 suspects nabbed in anti-drug campaign

Amman, The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) apprehended 23 people on drug-related charges in a crackdown across the Kingdom in the past two days, said Amer Sartawi, Spokesperson of the Public Security Department (PSD).

In one of the cases in Karak governorate, officers pursued a suspect who brought his young son with him as a cover-up.

When he was ordered to pull up, the suspect fled to a nearby house and opened fire on AND officers who subdued him, adding that a search of the vehicle uncovered 24 blocks of Hashish, 201 narcotic pills and ammunition in his possession.

AND personnel also carried out raids in Maan governorate which resulted in two arrests and the seizure of 55 blocks of Hashish, 4,400 Captagon pills, and a firearm, he added.

In the capital Amman, 7 suspects were arrested and 16 blocks of Hashish and 5,500 Captagon pills were found during raids, Sartawi said.

He also said that five people were in police custody following a drug bust in Ramtha, where officers confiscated 10 Kilograms of synthetic cannabis (locally known as Joker), 7 blocks of Hashish, 1,000 Captagon pills, 5 grams of heroine and 2,600 narcotic pills.
