Israeli Occupation Threatens to Forcibly Displace Palestinians from Masafer Yatta

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) warns the international community of the danger of the forced displacement of 1144 Palestinians living in Masafer Yatta in southern West Bank, which is occupied by the Israeli army.

MSF Head of Communications Amman Enas Abu Khalaf urged the international community to take the necessary measures to protect Palestinians living in Masafer Yatta and ensure that respect for their human rights is met.

The Israeli occupation impose enormous pressure on the residents to leave the area which is considered a forced displacement that is prohibited under the international humanitarian law (IHL), Abu Khalaf added.

According to MSF, the Israeli occupation authorities have intensified their procedures since May 2022, after a ruling issued by its supreme court to remove legal barriers that were stopping the forced displacement and to establish a military zone in the area.

1,144 Palestinians, including 569 children, currently live across the 12 hamlets of Masafer Yatta, MSF noted.

In the 80s of the last century, the Israeli entity had declared Masafer Yatta a closed military zone. This has resulted in deeming the thousands of Palestinians living in the area “illegal”, and therefore they face the risk of forced displacement.
